                  I. CUSTOMER ENVIRONMENT / PROJECT CONTEXT

                  Customer profile:

Palace Resorts inaugurated its first resort in Mexico's Cancun area, the Beach Palace, in 1985.  The hotel was a novelty, not only because it offered luxurious, comfortable rooms in an unbeatable location, with views of Cancun's breathtaking beaches, but because it was a pioneer in the all inclusive concept:  accommodation, dining, and gratuities all included in one rate.

This was followed by Cancun Palace in 1988 and the Sun Palace in 1992 all stretching along the well known Cancun hotel strip.  Palace Resorts then built the Moon Palace (Nizuc Section) in 1996 and the Moon Palace (Sunrise Section) in 1998 which would later become the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort.

                  Customer objective and constraints:

The objective was to deliver the best level of comfort for the guest while reducing energy consumption.
The hotel has around 1500 rooms. Those rooms are equiped with their own balcony and spa. Energy consumption is a critical issue.

                  II. SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION

                  Implementation methodology (main phases):

The engineering team of Schneider Electric Mexico worked with the two engineering firms SACMAG and H&B.
The solutions were then presented to the Palace Resorts management team.
To convince the hotelier of the benefit of an integrated solution, Schneider Electric presented an evaluation of the energy savings.
This solution is now used on five of the Palaces Resorts hotels.

How did we estimate the energy savings (methodology, tools, ...)

The use of a key card holder in every room to manage lighting and air conditionning has a direct impact on energy consumption when the guest is away from the room. Automatic detection of window status to control ventilation not only saves energy, but also protects the room from humidity.
On around 1500 rooms, total energy savings quickly become significant, especially when occupancy is low.

                  III. RESULTS / ACHIEVEMENT

                  Customer benefits:

Due to the size of the hotel, automation of HVAC and lighting management reduces energy consumption.
It is also a differentiating factor versus the competition as the hotel guest has a simple and user-friendly solution for managing HVAC and lighting.

Schneider Electric differentiating values VS competitors:

Schneider Electric's extensive offer and its ability to integrate it into a single system was the key differentiation with respect to competition.
The solution combines efficient equipment with aesthetic products which are used by the guests.
